Tango Partners With Spotify to Launch New Music Messaging Feature
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – Oct 30, 2013) - Tango – the popular U.S.-based mobile app that lets you connect with friends via calls, messaging and shared entertainment — announced today that it has partnered with Spotify to give Tango’s 160 million members the ability to discover and share music from Spotify’s catalog of over 20 million songs and personalize their Tango messages to friends.
The partnership marks the first time Spotify has been integrated into a platform like Tango’s, creating the first mobile messaging app to blend communication, social features and music.
“Our partnership with Spotify adds an amazing catalog of music to the many ways in which Tango’s users can express themselves through messaging,” said Uri Raz, CEO of Tango. “Since opening the Tango platform to developers this summer, we’ve been focused on developing partnerships like this to provide the most engaging experience for our members.”
“Mobile messaging is one of today’s fastest-growing communications platforms, and our partnership with Tango expands our mobile footprint globally and furthers our mission to provide people around the world with music for every moment,” said Alex Norstrom, Spotify’s VP of Growth. “Now Tango users can easily access Spotify to personalize their messages and instantly discover and share their favorite music with friends.”
Starting today Tango members will be able to search Spotify’s catalog of over 20 million songs on their mobile devices and instantly share clips of their favorites through group chat or with anyone in the Tango community using social features like “People Nearby” and “People You May Know.” The clips personalize Tango’s messaging with the ability to easily discover and share music, and instantly access full versions of songs on Spotify with just one tap.
Tango users will also have access to exclusive Spotify content, including a new live extended play (EP) from chart-topping sensation Lorde — recorded exclusively for Spotify, available beginning Nov. 1.
The Spotify partnership follows Tango’s successful platform launch in August, which attracted scores of game developers like Gameloft and generated millions of new game installs.
Tango, the leading mobile messaging and entertainment platform in the US with more than 160 million members, enables people to connect with friends and family in a way that is easy, spontaneous and fun. Tango allows users to send free text messages, play games, share music, and make free phone and video calls. Tango uniquely combines social discovery, messaging and content in one platform.
