Introducing…Tango for PC!

We’re very excited to announce the availability of Tango for the desktop today at www.tango.me! The new PC product shows its mobile roots with the same look and feel as Tango on the phone. Once downloaded, enter your mobile number to create a Tango account, and we’ll automatically find friends for you to video call!

For existing Tango members, it’s easy to sync your accounts. Just type in your mobile number and your contacts will appear instantly. You can also invite your friends to connect with through email or text.

If you have Tango installed on both your phone and PC, both devices will ring when you receive a call. Once you answer, the other device will be silenced.

The PC release was the number one requested feature by you and we’re so happy to make it available today and give you even more ways to call the people you care most about.

Best,
Jenny

We’re working on a MAC version that will be released later this year.

  2. Martin is right. I hope the Mac app is not like this. It should take a hint from FaceTime and look like a desktop app rather than an emulator of an iPhone. That’s the whole point of using an app on the computer.

As for the whole “If you have Tango installed on both your phone and PC, both devices will ring when you receive a call. Once you answer, the other device will be silenced.” thing, just no. My phone sits right next to me when I’m at the computer. Make an option to disable iPhone notifications when the Mac app is active and if the screensaver is on it resumes sending them to the iPhone.

  6. Looking forward to the Mac port, but I second the notion for a proper user interface for desktop use. Consider Apple’s User interface guidelines:

    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/Intro/Intro.html

An application that looks like a phone on a computer looks gimmicky to me, sorry to say but that is my honest answer. Hope this helps!

  7. You may delete my comments, but this doesn’t erase the fact that making a desktop app look like a phone *IS* stupid…

  8. The phone registration on the PC and the simultaneous ringing is not good enough. Can’t call my phone from my PC while I’m away. Need to fix this to make it useful. Call me when you get it, and I’ll try it again.

  12. Thank you for Tango! It’s very simple and intuitive.
Is there an option to make a change and edit names in contacts . Once I enter someones name, I don’t now how to edit it later.

Thank you too! Tango works by looking at the address book on your phone and telling you who also has Tango. You can edit names of people in your address book if you want them changed. Right now there is no way to edit your Tango contacts in the application, but this feature is on our radar!

  14. I use this on my laptop, that has a webcam. Why can the person who I am calling via Tango on their pone only hear me but not see me? Do I need to configure the webcam or something?

  15. Wow you do something so amazing and its free and some people still complain because it appears as a big iphone…….I suggest they do just that and take it ofif if they feel it is lame. or make a kind suggestion without calling your idea so lame.
I would like to thank you so much for your free service and your comment sections. Personally I love it. I would imagine i can disable it on my phone in a few simple steps while using my pc if the ringing on both bothers me.

Thanks for the love Terry! Tango will ring both your phone and PC. Once you pick up on one of your devices, it will silence the other one. More features coming soon!

  16. i agree, why make an app for the PC that just looks like a tiny little iPhone????? that is just plain crazy.
The word “LAME’ doesn’t even begin to describe it if this is what the app lloks like on a PC.
Was going to use it, but i won’t, until it uses the full screen and has the functionality of other s/w that does this…

  20. Creating a PC version was a great idea. The idea went bust when you made it a requirement to verify the phone number by SMS message. What about people who DO NOT HAVE A MOBILE PHONE? How the hell are they supposed to recieve a SMS message to verify the phone number? I have a mobile phone. My GF does not, but she has a lap top with a web cam and and LAND LINE number. How can she set up this app on her PC when she doesn’t have SMS capability? DOH!

You cannot send video messages through the PC – only on Android and iOS right now. You can receive a video message from your friend though. You will receive an email if once has been sent.
